Laura Mills portrait

Laura joined the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) as an Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) in August of 2017. She moved to CBSC from the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), where she was an Administrative Assistant (AA) II to the Director and Director’s Office staff. Prior to DMHC, Laura was an AA I at the California State Lottery (her first State job). Her role at CBSC includes coordinating Education and Outreach, and administering the Green Fund fee collection process.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a Liberal Arts degree (with a focus on journalism and education), Laura’s career began as an Administrative Assistant in the financial services department of a major retailer. In that capacity, she developed skills and knowledge in office management, internal and external outreach, and accounting. Along the way, Laura nurtured her love of journalism and education by writing a lot of newsletter articles, technical and instructional guides, and web content for work and as a volunteer for various organizations. At CBSC, she is committed to cheerfully serving the constituents of the State of California and making a lasting impact on our “Green” future in the state.

Laura enjoys visiting her vacation home in South Lake Tahoe, where she mountain bikes in the summer and skis in the winter. She has earned a 5th degree black belt in Kenpo karate and attained the level of “Premier” in competitive Scottish Highland Dancing. She has a sister who lives in Nevada, an adult daughter who also works for the state, and two grandsons with whom she enjoys an active and eventful life.
