As part of the Executive Office, provides sustainability-related services for all state agencies, including policy development, energy saving retrofits, clean energy generation projects, and electric vehicle infrastructure.

    Zero Net Energy (ZNE)

    The State of California defines Zero Net Energy (ZNE) for state buildings as follows: "ZNE Source – Energy Efficient building that produces as much clean renewable energy as it consumes over the course of a year, when accounted for at the energy generation source."

    Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building rating system administered by the US Green Building Council. California has required LEED certification for its buildings since 2004.
