Lara Paskins Headshot

Lara Paskins joined the CBSC team in January of 2024 as a Staff Services Manager 1 (Specialist). In this capacity, she will participate in the development process of the California Building Standards Code (Title 24), with a focus on the California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen), during the triennial and intervening code adoption cycles; provide project management and proofing services for new editions of Title 24; coordinate various technical advisory committee meetings and training workshops to support the development and understanding of building standards; and manage various special projects for the commission.

Prior to coming on board with CBSC, Lara served for over five years as Staff Services Manager for both the Regulations and Administrative Services units of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (OSHSB), which is the standards-setting agency within the Cal/OSHA program. During her tenure with OSHSB, Lara became the resident expert in the rulemaking process and the Administrative Procedures Act. She was privileged to be involved in the review and project management of high-profile standards like COVID-19 Prevention, Protection from Wildfire Smoke, Occupational Exposures to Respirable Crystalline Silica, Fire Fighters’ Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment, and Outdoor Agricultural Operations During Hours of Darkness.

Lara first joined the state in 2011 as an Education Analyst with the Producer Licensing division of the California Department of Insurance. Her preceding professional life in the private sector included positions ranging from office manager of a civil engineering firm to direct marketing project manager for a high-end travel consortium.

As a graduate from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communications, Lara is drawn to work where she can utilize both her creative and analytical expertise. She was born and raised (and still lives) in Fair Oaks, California, but is lucky to have spent various periods of her life enjoying the perfect weather on the central California coast, the culture and excitement of the Bay Area, and the unmatched scenery of Seattle.

Lara loves hiking, yoga, vegan cooking, traveling, meeting new people, and appreciating the beauty that is all around us. Her biggest passion, however, is discovering new music and attending live concerts. She is a long-time supporter of the best radio station in the world – KEXP (Seattle). She has been married to her soulmate and best friend since 1998, and they still really like each other. Together they have raised two amazing humans who are going to make the world a better place.
