Olivia Mae Asuncion

Commissioner Asuncion has been a Project Architect at Quattrocchi Kwok Architects since 2021 and is currently working on K-12 educational facilities. Prior to 2021, she held multiple positions at Shah Kawasaki Architects from 2015 to 2021, and was a Project Assistant at Equity Community Builders from 2010 to 2013. She is a member of the United States Access Board and the California Commission on Disability Access.
Commissioner Asuncion’s career focus has been on building accessible communities and advocating for inclusive design. She started her professional career helping Bay Area non-profit organizations with construction and property management needs, including work on the Ed Roberts Campus, a universally designed building in Berkeley that hosts several disability organizations, as well as fully accessible meeting rooms, a computer/media resource center, fitness center, cafe, and child development center.
Commissioner Asuncion is passionate about improving architecture through environmental design research. She has worked on a study assessing the efficacy and accessibility of existing evacuation protocols and building safety codes for people with disabilities; collaborated with University of Oregon faculty on a post-occupancy evaluation of the Ed Roberts Campus; and was involved with a Fulbright Program project studying the accessibility of elementary schools in the Philippines.Most recently, Commissioner Asuncion received the 2025 American Institute of Architects Young Architects Award and was recognized in the 2024 San Francisco Business Times’ 40 Under 40. She earned a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
