Commissioner Ramirez retired form Governor Newsom’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) in 2021 where he held the position of deputy director of goods movement and sustainable freight. Mr. Ramirez also worked as a senior permit specialist in the Brown administration’s GO-Biz, a senior manager within Governor Schwarzenegger’s Office of Military Support, and as deputy director of planning within Governor Davis’ Office of Planning and Research. Commissioner Ramirez has held high level positions in several state agencies including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the California Trade and Commerce Agency, and the California Research Bureau.

 

At the local level, Mr. Ramirez served as a commissioner on the City of Sacramento Planning Commission, the City of Woodland Planning Commission, and several local boards including the Stanford Settlement Board of Directors and the Sacramento Tree Foundation Board of Directors. He also worked with hundreds of youths while serving as head soccer coach for Natomas High School, Capital Christian High School, and various competitive soccer clubs throughout the Sacramento region, with one of his teams earning a U.S. Soccer Club national title.

 

Mr. Ramirez received his undergraduate degree from the University of the Pacific, where he lettered in Division I NCAA soccer. He holds a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
