Les Young joined CBSC in October of 2025 as an Associate Architect, participating in the development and review of proposed building standards for the California Building Standards Code.

Les has over 30 years of experience as an architect in the private sector, primarily with large-scale residential and commercial buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area. As an early adopter of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and 3-D computer modeling, Les has assisted many firms with setting up CAD and Building Information Management (BIM) software and production standards. For the past several years, he has been pushing the limits of AI for use in architecture and design.

Born in Cincinnati, Les was a professional firefighter and paramedic in Dayton, Ohio prior to being accepted to the University of Cincinnati’s School of Architecture. After graduation, he lived in upstate New York and worked on custom homes before moving to California. During the COVID pandemic, Les moved from San Francisco to the Sierra Nevada foothills, where he enjoys spending time exploring the high country and old gold mining towns.
