A list of other funding opportunities related to school construction outside the program administered by the State Allocation Board and Office of Public School Construction (OPSC). OPSC encourages interested parties to reach out to the entities directly for more information.

 

California Air Resources Board (CARB) – Planning and Capacity Building (Planning), Clean Mobility in Schools (CMIS), and Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP)

CARB has $32.65 million available to fund planning, clean transportation, and supporting projects for multiple grantees across the state. Applications are open for community-based organizations, local governments, tribal governments, and public schools to fund planning, clean transportation, and supporting projects that work together to increase transportation equity.

This Request for Applications (RFA) is a two-phase process. Concept Phase applications must be received by CARB no later than 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) on September 8, 2023. For Applicants that are invited to apply to the Full Phase, Full Phase applications must be received by CARB no later than 11:59 pm (Pacific Time) on November 3, 2023. Applicants must apply to the Concept Phase to be eligible for the Full Phase.

California Department of Education

The California Department of Education operates a large number of programs that provide funds to schools and other organizations for a variety of educational purposes.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (CAL FIRE)

CalFIRE’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program strives to increase the long-term benefits trees provide, improve the public’s understanding and appreciation of urban trees, and advance urban forest management and tree care. Special consideration is given to projects serving disadvantaged and/or low-income communities. Green Schoolyard Grants are for school that would like to replace asphalt with green spaces, trees and vegetation to provide more protection against extreme heat.

California Energy Commission

California School Finance Authority

The California School Finance Authority (CSFA) was created in 1985 to finance educational facilities and working capital on behalf of school districts and community college districts. Since its inception, the Authority has developed a number of financing programs primarily focused on assisting non-profit borrowers, school districts and community colleges with meeting their facility and working capital needs.
