Access Lead in Water Testing and Remediation Program Funding
About this Service
The Kindergarten through Grade 12 Schools and Local Community College Public Education Facilities Modernization, Repair, and Safety Bond Act of 2024 (Proposition 2) established in 2024 by Proposition 2 added Education Code Section 17077.60 to allow the State Allocation Board (Board) to award grants in funding cycles, wherein the first funding cycle could provide funding to school districts requesting funding for lead in water testing. The second funding cycle could provide funding to school districts that demonstrate that testing resulted in lead levels in excess of 15 parts per billion (ppb).
At its January 22, 2025 meeting, the Board set aside the maximum amount of Modernization bond authority for the Lead in Water Testing and Remediation Program permitted under statute. Thus, $115 million of Proposition 2 Modernization bond authority is set aside to establish the Lead in Water Testing and Remediation Program for purposes of testing and remediation of lead in water outlets used for drinking and preparing food within public K-12 schools.
