Photo of Matt HenniganMatt Henigan serves as the Deputy Director of Sustainability for the Department of General Services. He was appointed by Director Ana Lasso on April 1, 2022.

Mr. Henigan previously was CalRecycle’s Deputy Director for Materials Management and Local Assistance. He directed the department’s interactions with local government programs for waste and recycling and oversaw CalRecycle’s programs for extended producer responsibility, electronic waste, waste tires, market development, grants, and loans.  

Previously Mr. Henigan served as the Deputy Secretary for Sustainability at the California Government Operations Agency, where he directed efforts to reduce the environmental impact of state operations, including buildings, vehicles, and purchasing.  He has also served as the Sustainable Energy Advisor for the City of Santa Monica.

Mr. Henigan holds an MBA from the Presidio School of Management where he studied market-based solutions to environmental problems and has a BA in Environmental Politics from Pitzer College.
