AB 32 Policy Delivers Major Climate Milestone

In 2006, DGS helped shape California’s AB 32 Scoping Plan, targeting reductions in greenhouse gas emissions—especially from buildings, which were the second largest source.

July 11, 2018: California reached a key milestone—emissions fell below 1990 levels for the first time.

This outcome demonstrates the success of long-term policy planning and cross-agency implementation led by AB 32.

  • In 2018, DGS created the AO-18-01 Policy. This DGS policy requires organic waste recycling in buildings located in cities where haulers provide organic waste recycling services.
