Chief Deputy Director, Jason Kenney

Jason Kenney was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as the Director of the Department of General Services on September 30, 2026. Prior to that, Director Kenney had been appointed to serve as the Chief Deputy Director at the California Department of General Services, serving in that role since April 2023.

Director Kenney leads the Department of General Services (DGS), which serves as the business manager for the state of California, with nearly 4,500 employees and a budget of $1.3 billion. DGS serves the public by providing a variety of services to state agencies through procurement, acquisition solutions, creative real estate management, design, innovation, environmentally friendly transportation, and funding for the construction of state schools, amongst other services.

Previously, Kenney has been Deputy Director of Real Estate Services at DGS, and has served in several positions since 2016, including Assistant Deputy Director of Real Estate Services, Chief of the Project Management and Development Branch and Deputy Director of Strategic Planning, Policy and Research. He was Chief of the Business Management Branch at the California Department of State Hospitals from 2013 to 2015, and has held various other state positions since 2008. Kenney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento.
