Environmentally Preferable Purchasing
Learn more about EPP Best Practices

As part of the Procurement Division, the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Program supports states agencies with information and assistance to make environmentally preferable decisions in their procurements. EPP means buying goods and services that have a reduced impact on human health and the environment (Public Contract Code §12400-12404). The EPP Best Practices Manual (BPM) is your guide to environmentally preferable purchases. Use our recommended ecolabels, postconsumer recycled content, and take back requirements to green state purchases.
The California Procurement and Contracting Academy (CalPCA) has developed training modules to help requisitioners, buyers, supervisors and managers buy green with ease. These training programs assist procurement officials by introducing the criteria that can be used while purchasing goods and services to increase EPP within a department.
