DSA ACC Member, Sean McNamara
The Division of the State Architect (DSA) is pleased to announce this charter member of the Access Code Collaborative (ACC). The following individual was selected for a specific constituency category, to ensure all stakeholder perspectives are considered in the collaboration efforts of the ACC. While each member has been selected for a specific constituency category, many members identify with more than one constituency group, which contributes to enhanced collaboration among the group.
Sean McNamara, selected to represent building/facility owners, brings a wide range of both professional and personal experiences regarding accessibility regulations to the ACC. Sean had spent the majority of his career in the public sector serving as a building code official responsible for the application, interpretation, and administration of regulations in the built environment for jurisdictions spanning three states before recently making the transition to the private sector. Currently Sean serves as a Building Regulatory Strategy Lead where he is able to leverage his experience as an AHJ, by leading code compliance initiatives in the design, construction, operations and maintenance of a Fortune 50 company’s fleet of facilities across the country. Sean is a Certified Access Specialist and holds a number of certifications from the International Code Council including Master Code Professional, Certified Building Official, and Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner.
In addition to his professional experience, accessible design is personally important to Sean as both a father of, and advocate for, two children with disabilities (mobility/intellectual). Sean enjoys helping contractors, design professionals, and those responsible for enforcement of the code, better understand not only the technical provisions of the code but also why these requirements exist and how they affect the end users of buildings and facilities.
