Pre-Cycle Activities 2017

this is a 2015 hidden Pre-cycle page, used to demonstrate sub navigation...pre-cycle activities consist of a number of preliminary steps that lead up to formal commencement of the 2015 Triennial Code Adoption Cycle, which resulted in the 2016 California Building Standards Code, Title 24. Those steps included state agency review of the new model codes (e.g. 2015 International Building, Residential, Existing, and Fires Codes, 2015 Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes, and the 2014 National Electrical Code). The state agencies that propose building codes determined what, if any, model codes required California amendments.

During the 2015 pre-cycle period, which continued through Spring 2015, proposing state agencies held public workshops to discuss possible amendments for the 2016 Code. The 2016 Code was published on July 1, 2016 and went into effect on January 1, 2017. Workshops provided an open forum for the public and industry stakeholders to participate in vetting potential modifications to California's building codes.

Code Adoption Cycle

State agencies may propose changes to building standards or regulations related to the implementation or enforcement of building standards. California Building Standards Law (Health and Safety Code, Division 13, Part 2.5, commencing with Section 18901) requires the agency to submit building standards to the California Building Standards Commission for adoption and/or approval prior to codification.
