State-owned mobile equipment used on public roads shall be properly identified. The Director of DGS shall approve the type of identification used.

Exceptions are state-owned mobile equipment used by elected officials with regular automobile license plates; mobile equipment designated as exempt by the Director of DGS; and undercover vehicles as authorized in the California Vehicle Code.
