The California Department of General Services (“DGS”) is committed to protecting your privacy. State law requires us to provide this notice when collecting personal information from individuals.
We collect personal information necessary to carry out our statutory functions and responsibilities of the department.
The collection and maintenance of your personal information is authorized by the statutes and regulations that apply to the specific DGS division or program responsible for collecting the information. A few examples of these authorities include:

Different divisions gather personal information for various reasons and in accordance with the relevant statutory and regulatory authorities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S. Code § 12101, et seq.) specifically restricts what information can be collected for certain uses, such as confirming the existence of a disability or why an accommodation may be needed.
Any personal information collected is also subject to the limitations of the California Information Practices Act and other applicable state and federal laws or policies. The personal information collected may include your name, Social Security number, contact information, or financial information. DGS’ general Privacy Policy Statement is available on our website.
We use this information to provide services, verify eligibility, process applications or claims, to communicate with you regarding your submittals, respond to inquiries, engage in ordinary business and emergency operations, improve our services and websites, and comply with legal requirements.
We do not sell or distribute personal information to third parties but may share it with authorized entities (e.g., partner agencies, law enforcement, contractors) as required by law, including disclosures pursuant to Civil Code § 1798.24.
Providing personal information is voluntary; however, failure to provide the required information may result in our inability to provide you with service or delayed processing.
Individuals have the right to access their own personal information maintained by DGS and to request correction of any inaccuracies in such records. Requests should be directed to the DGS office or program with which you transacted, as they are responsible for information maintenance.
