Paper waste is a significant contributor of total waste in the United States. The state buys different types and sizes of paper, made with post-consumer recycled content, as well as paper products with forest sustainability certifications to reduce environmental impacts.

These contracts are considered "green" because they offer paper products with post-consumer recycled content, forestry chain-of-custody ecolabels, and State Agency Buy Recycled Campaign compliance. These criteria help promote more sustainable practices within the entire paper industry.
