Architectural Codes and Policies Team – Accessibility Unit

Michelle Davis, Supervising Architect

Licensed architect since 2003, CASp since 2010.  Founding member and past board member of the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI).  Joined DSA in 2022 after more than 30 years in private practice working on a wide range of projects from housing to commercial, institutional, and medical facilities.  Cum laude graduate of UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design.

Kirklyn Cox, Senior Architect

Kirklyn has been a California licensed architect since 2016 and provides technical guidance in accessibility, rulemaking, and building code application. Kirklyn is a Certified Access Specialist (2023) and a Certified Passive House Designer (2025). His professional background includes access barrier‑removal design and construction projects.

Benjamin Matray, Senior Architect

Prior to starting at DSA, Benjamin was the County Architect for the County of Butte for more than 12 years starting in 2012. As Butte County’s Architect he was responsible for updating the County’s Self-evaluation and Transition Plan in addition to managing accessibility upgrades annually for County facilities and services in accordance with Title II of the ADA. His public sector work was preceded by more than a decade in the private sector focused on a variety of projects ranging in scope and delivery method.

Nicholas Nganga, Associate Architect

Nicholas’ background as an architect included a diverse range of projects, including new and modernizations in K‑12 schools, community colleges, UCD & UCSF, and private research laboratories in the SF Bay Area. His focus is to assist in researching and implementing CA accessibility amendments to model code and coordinating proposals to existing code.

For CASps, one continuing education credit is offered for a minimum of one-hour attendance during the meeting time. The type of CEU credit available will be based on topic. Either California Building Code (CBC) or Federal Laws Standards, and Regulations or Equivalent Activity (FED), will be listed with the topic. These CEU's are required to be reported by the CASp at time of renewal and will be confirmed at time of renewal.

Scheduled dates to be third Thursday of each month. CEU type and topics for future months will be determined as the discussion date approaches.

REGISTRATION

Participation in CCDG sessions is free; however, registration  through your DSA Academy LMS account is required. To register online for an upcoming webinar, log into your DSA Academy account; go to the Course Catalog to browse available coursework; select and follow instructions to complete the registration process.

This account will also enable you to manage your classes including the ability to track your attendance by viewing your transcript, as certificates of attendance will not be offered. Per CASp Program regulations, it is the CASp’s responsibility to retain records of their continuing education attendance. You will also be emailed links for each session you have registered. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNIT (CEU) CREDIT

One CEU is offered for participation for each CCDG to CASps which may be applied toward their CASp certification renewal. To obtain one CEU, a CASp must be in attendance for a minimum of one hour during the meeting time of 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Continuing education units for CCDG sessions are issued according to the coursework content: Regulatory updates to accessibility provisions of the CBC, designated as (CBC); and, federal accessibility regulations, standards, guidelines, and equivalent activities are designated as (FED). Each CCDG session will include the CEU designation of either (CBC) or (FED).

To record your attendance at the CCDG and log your CEU credit, log into the CASp renewal portal at (CASp - Log In) and follow the instructions for the renewal of certification. When completing your CASp certification renewal application, list CCDG webinars with (CBC) designation under “California Building Code Continuing Education” and those with (FED) designation under “Federal Standards/Regulations Continuing Education and Equivalent Activity.” DSA tracks attendance at each session, and will match attendee name, date, and minutes attended to confirm attendance. It is recommended that attendees log in to the session with the name used on their CASp certification. No attendance certificates are required or provided.
