State employees on official business are required to make arrangements for lodging through the Statewide Travel Program (STP), with the exception of Short-term Rentals (as defined below). For specific information about the current STP lodging, please refer to the STP Lodging Resources page.

Short-term Rentals

Short-term rentals are defined as “residential property that is rented to a visitor for fewer than 30 days through a centralized online platform whereby the rental is advertised and payments for rental are securely processed.” Reservations for short-term rentals may be made through the service’s proprietary centralized online platform (such as airbnb.com).

Use of STP for personal hotel reservations is prohibited. Any personal use could lead to civil penalties under Government Code section 8314(c).
