The Department of General Services, Office of Risk and Insurance Management (ORIM), is pleased to announce the arrival of the Statewide Defensive Driver Training (DDT) – Online course. The online version replaces the need for the traditional instructor-lead classroom training and will result in program savings passed on to the departments.

ORIM will continue to offer Van Driver, Behind the Wheel, and One-on-One driver training courses. Please visit the DGS Training Website for more information or e-mail: DDT@dgs.ca.gov

The Office of Risk and Insurance Management has implemented an insurance based "(EMMP) Equipment Maintenance Management Insurance Program" that replaces existing equipment manufacturer and third party service contracts and enables departments to reduce the annual cost of maintaining equipment by 25%, improve service performance and enhance tracking of maintenance events and costs. This program is managed through The REMI Group (REMI).

The Governor's Employee Safety Awards (GESA) were established in 1980 to highlight and encourage safety on the job by recognizing individuals and groups who have provided outstanding safety and health service to the State. Awards are presented to individuals or groups who have responded to hazardous or life threatening events, as well as those who have developed safety programs that are not part of their normal duties during the preceding year.

Effective July 1, 2004, The Department of General Services, Office of Risk & Insurance Management (ORIM) will no longer be providing First Aid/CPR training classes to state and other public agencies. State agencies will contract directly with First Aid/CPR providers. For those state agencies who wish to continue to re-certify their employees under the program used in the Office of Risk & Insurance Mangement's First Aid/CPR training, contact providers under the Medic First Aid (MFA) program.
