Preventive Maintenance
California owns and operates approximately 50,000 pieces of mobile equipment, of which approximately 7,000 are owned by OFAM. It is OFAM's responsibility to ensure that mobile equipment is properly maintained and safe to operate. Maintenance and repair services are not only available for OFAM mobile equipment, but mobile equipment owned by agencies/departments. Drivers should have their oil changed according to the manufacture's recommended servicing interval by a State approved vendor. To find a State approved vendor, perform an Approved Auto Repair Vendor Query or contact the Fleet Call Center at 1.855.611.OFAM (6326). If servicing or repairs exceed $500, the driver must contact a State Vehicle Inspector.

Toyota Prius Smog Information
The Toyota Prius is not compatible with California's Two Speed Idle or ASM tests because of vehicle design. The Prius engine speed is limited to a maximum of 2250 RPM when stopped and, therefore, cannot reach the specified testing speed of 2500 RPM performed at smog check stations.

For now, Toyota Prius vehicles must be sent to state contracted referee facilities where the hybrid-electric smog check inspections are performed. To schedule an appointment, you may contact the State Referee Scheduling Center at 1.800.622.7733.  New vehicles are not required to have biennial smog checks until the fifth year.

Questions regarding these guidelines should be directed to Mike Powers at  916.255.4519 or Dan Burnett at 916.255.4242 with the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR).
Vehicle Safety Advisory
Toyota has issued a safety recall notice and a press release regarding potential hazards involving floor mats and accelerator pedal entrapment on several Toyota models.

The 2010 Prius is involved in an ABS brake system recall

The ABS brake system could experience a momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over an uneven road surface, pothole or bump.

The 2004-2009 Prius is involved in a floor mat recall

Owners have been issued an advisory to remove the driver's side floor mat to remedy a sudden acceleration safety issue involving floor mats trapping accelerator pedals in various Toyota and Lexus models.

Toyota has also determined that some other late model (non-Prius) vehicles are being recalled to correct the possibility of a sticking gas pedal

Toyota has set up a special web site about their recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also has an advisory posted for Toyota owners
