Energy Efficiency Regulations & Plan Review for School Construction

All Projects submitted to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) for plan review, including Relocatable Classrooms, must comply with DSA and California Energy Commission (CEC) requirements.

All applications received by the Division of the State Architect (DSA) are required to comply with the new 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards—Effective January 1, 2010.

The California Energy Commission adopted the 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards on April 23, 2008; and the California Building Standards Commission approved them for publication on September 11, 2008. The effective date is January 1, 2010. The Division of the State Architect will be reviewing all applications for compliance to these standards. If the application was submitted on or after January 1, 2010, the 2008 Standards must be met.
