DGS Deputy Director Jennifer Grutzius led a session for other state agencies focused on increasing the number of green vehicles within state fleets.

photo of IT specialists.As part of the national recovery effort following Hurricane Isaac, the Department of General Services is working with the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) which recently deployed several personnel to local assistance centers established by the federal government.

DGS Information Technology Services (ITS) employee Ross Elias (pictured second from left) is working with Cal EMA specialists setting up computer banks, testing wireless networks and installing cable for Internet connections that will enable displaced survivors to apply for various types of assistance.

Ross, an associate information systems analyst with ITS, will be working along with the CalEMA team for the next few weeks setting up IT and telecommunications systems in Louisiana areas hit hardest by the storm.

photo of small business outreach workersThe Department of General Services (DGS) continues to support California small businesses, microbusiness, and disabled veteran business enterprises by meeting and exceeding state contracting goals.

During fiscal year 2011-12, DGS awarded $72.1 million, or 38.5 percent, of its contracting dollars to small businesses and microbusinesses (SB/MB), far outpacing the state goal of 25 percent. In addition, DGS awarded $18 million, or 9.6 percent, of its contracting dollars to disabled-veteran owned business (DVBE), tripling the state goal of three percent.

DGS exec staff heard a presentation about the upcoming DGS campaign and heard from Pet Partners, one of the many charities state employees can support through the CSECC.

The State Information Officers Council (SIOC) awarded the Department of General Service's (DGS) Office of Public Affairs (OPA) with three awards for their work in 2011 promoting the programs and activities of DGS.  SIOC has been honoring the work of State communications professionals for decades and this is the first time that DGS staff have been recognized for their work.

calgreen logoThe California Building Standards Commission has been honored at the 2012 Green California summit with a Green Building Leadership Award for developing CALGreen, the nation’s first mandatory green building code. CALGreen requires that all buildings in California now be constructed with the environment in mind, including energy and water conservation measures along with the use of renewable, recyclable and recycled materials.
