Office of Public School Construction Helps Break Ground for Elementary School in Desert Hot Springs
The Office of Public School Construction’s (OPSC) Executive Officer Lisa Silverman (pictured second from right) joined local officials in a groundbreaking ceremony recently for Bella Vista Elementary in Desert Hot Springs.
The project will provide 725 Palm Springs Unified School District elementary students a place to learn, while the construction of the school bolsters the local economy through the creation of approximately 500 school construction jobs and the purchase of building materials.
The project received $14.9 million in state funding from the New Construction
program. With the available funding, the school district will build 32 classrooms, library/media center, kitchen, multipurpose room and bathrooms.
The New Construction program provides state funds on a 50/50 state and local sharing basis for eligible projects that add capacity to a school district.
OPSC, on behalf of the Department of General Services and the State Allocation Board
, implements and administers a $35 billion voter-approved school facilities construction program.
