Gov. Brown Reappoints Jim Butler to Lead DGS Procurement Division

photo of Jim ButlerJim Butler has been re-appointed by Governor Brown as Deputy Director of the Department of General Services Procurement Division and the Chief Procurement Officer for the State of California.

Mr. Butler was Director of Procurement Services at San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Company where he worked from 2002 until 2007 reengineering legacy purchasing functions, implementing strategic sourcing, and deploying eProcurement tools across a wide variety of categories. From 1996 until 2001, he served in several senior manager positions with Dell Computer Corporation in Austin, Texas including procurement, ERP systems, and business development. From 1993 until 1996, he led Asia business development efforts for a portfolio of venture backed clients at Asia Pacific Ventures, a boutique venture capital firm in Menlo Park, California.

Mr. Butler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and a Masters of Business Administration both from Brigham Young University. In addition, Mr. Butler is a Certified Professional of Supply Management and serves on the standards committee for the Institute for Supply Management.
