DGS Consolidates Fleet Services
The Department of General Services announced today that it has centralized its fleet management services; closing garages and offices in Fresno, Los Angeles, Oakland and San Diego and moving operations to the State Garage on 1416 Tenth St. in Sacramento. DGS has also eliminated preventative maintenance in its Sacramento garage. The moves will help the department save more than $2 million annually.
DGS’ Office of Fleet and Asset Management has also begun operating a new toll-free call center which will address customer vehicle needs statewide. The DGS Fleet Call Center can be reached at 1-855-611-OFAM (6326).
“These moves will allow DGS’ Fleet operations to operate far more efficiently; ultimately allowing us to serve our state agency customers more effectively,” said DGS Director Fred Klass.
Call center agents will help state drivers find authorized repair and maintenance facilities, arrange for state loaner vehicles, and check out daily rental vehicles. The call center will also notify drivers of required routine maintenance and smog inspection due dates, as well as advise state drivers about various fleet policies, other available services and green driving tips. The garages, originally established in the 1950s and '60s, were once the only location for state employees to rent or service a state vehicle. Today, state employees outside Sacramento can rent vehicles from private rental car companies and service state vehicles at private repair shops.
