The Department of General Services announced today that it has centralized its fleet management services; closing garages and offices in Fresno, Los Angeles, Oakland and San Diego and moving operations to the State Garage on 1416 Tenth St. in Sacramento.  DGS has also eliminated preventative maintenance in its Sacramento garage.  The moves will help the department save more than $2 million annually.

Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. has declared the month of May as ‘California Small Business Month.’  Currently, more than 26 percent of California's business is done by small businesses.  The Department of General Services has certified more than 20,000 small businesses, of those, more than 13,000 are Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises.

The State Information Officers Council (SIOC) awarded the Department of General Service's (DGS) Office of Public Affairs (OPA) with three awards for their work in 2011 promoting the programs and activities of DGS.  SIOC has been honoring the work of State communications professionals for decades and this is the first time that DGS staff have been recognized for their work.
