Brian Ferguson was appointed Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Department of General Services (DGS) by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. on August 29, 2013.
Ferguson brings more than 10 years of communications, public relations, and journalism experience to DGS.
Prior to his appointment, Ferguson worked for seven years doing media and communication for the California Faculty Association (CFA), the labor union representing 23,000 faculty, coaches, counselors, and librarians in the California State University system.
Prior to CFA, Ferguson spent time working as a reporter for the Syracuse Post-Standard and the Marin Independent Journal newspapers.
Ferguson holds a master's degree in Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Sonoma State University. He lives in Sacramento with his wife Lianne.
