Andrew Sturmfels began serving as deputy director of the Administration Division in March of 2018.
Prior to that, he was the deputy director for Legislative Affairs since 2016 and concurrently served as the acting deputy director of Administration.
Sturmfels served as deputy director of legislative and intergovernmental affairs in the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) since 2014. He was a senior permit assistance specialist at GO-Biz from 2013 to 2014.
Prior to that, Sturmfels was manager of planning and performance management at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control from 2011 to 2013. Prior to beginning his public service career, Andrew served on the leadership teams for Larkspur Hotels and Restaurants and the San Francisco Marriott Marquis.
Andrew earned a B.A. in Political Science from Roanoke College and a Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento. He and his family live in West Sacramento, where he also serves as a Planning Commissioner.
