Paper waste is one of the most significant contributors of total waste in the United States. Paper bags made with recycled content divert waste from landfills and reduce environmental impacts.

Green Contracts

The paper grocery bag contract promotes the use of postconsumer recycled content by offering paper bags made with 100% postconsumer recycled content.

Buying Tips

  • Look for products that contain a high percentage of postconsumer recycled content.
  • Ensure bags are free of coatings. If coated, only water based or water-soluble markings are acceptable.
  • Purchase bags that do not contain additives such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, or mercury.
