MAJOR STEP IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES REVITALIZATION COMPLETED WITH RE-DEDICATION OF HISTORIC BROADWAY STORE BUILDING
Los Angeles-State officials in Los Angeles today formally re-dedicated the historic Broadway Building, a major step in the revitalization of Los Angeles' historic downtown core. The project consolidates several state offices in the former flagship building of the Broadway department store chain. The site has been vacant since 1973.

"This re-dedication will not only contribute economically and historically to Los Angeles's downtown core, it will save taxpayer dollars by consolidating state office workers into one state-owned building," said Department of General Services Interim Director Cliff Allenby.  "The historic renovation work ensures the building will be cherished by Angelenos for years to come."

The re-dedication ceremony was attended by State and Consumer Services Agency Secretary Aileen Adams, and representatives of the Los Angeles/State Building Authority.

The rehabilitation of the ten-story, 85-year-old structure at 4th and Broadway cost
$69 million. It consolidates the operations of 12 state agencies and houses approximately 1,100 employees under the same roof resulting in greater operational efficiencies.

Several features of the historic building have been preserved including a stairwell from the original 1914 structure, flagpoles, and a marble art deco department store floor medallion.

Swinerton and Walberg Company served as the project general contractor; Johnson/Fain Partners the design architect. Tishman Construction Corporation performed construction management services for the Los Angeles/State Building Authority.
