Department of General Services Wins Awards For Cost-Cutting, Time-Saving Programs
Sacramento -- The California Department of General Services, the state's business services provider, was among 60 state, local and federal agencies presented with awards today for innovative programs that are making government more efficient.

Three teams representing DGS were among the more than 100 people taking part in the "California Gold: Celebrating Public Sector Teams" event:
  • The Procurement Division's California Multiple Award Schedule team, which reduced by half the time it takes to add suppliers to the state's purchasing system, thereby maximizing the state's buying power and satisfying customers.
  • The Real Estate Services Division's Capitol Area Partners team, which is working with the Capitol Area Development Authority to create a mixed-use urban community in downtown Sacramento, while providing for tax-saving state office consolidations.
  • The Office of Fleet Administration's Electric Vehicle testing and leasing team, which in cooperation with the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, the state Energy Commission, the National Car Rental company, and American Honda Motor company developed a public/private partnership to lease non-polluting vehicles to government agencies and make them available for state employees to rent at two California airports.
"These programs are helping to make state government run more efficiently while giving taxpayers the best value for their dollar," said DGS Director Peter Stamison. "Thanks to the hard work of these public-sector teams and many others, we're delivering results and better customer service."

DGS employees were on hand during the Capitol Park event to showcase the projects that were presented with "California Gold" awards for simplifying business processes, untangling red tape, and increasing customer satisfaction.
