Sacramento — The California Department of General Services (DGS) announced today that for the second year-in-a-row the Microsoft Corporation has honored the department with a Solutions Showcase Award for e-government innovation. The award was presented at the 14th annual Government Technology Conference. The winning web-based application called Me.DGS makes it possible for DGS’ approximately 4,000 employees to easily update information.
"It’s a honor to be recognized for demonstrated expertise and commitment to providing outstanding government technology solutions and customer service," said DGS’ Office of Technology Resources Manager Joe Sogge. "Me.DGS makes it easy for employees to keep their information accurate and up-to-date."
With more reliance on computer e–mail systems to maintain communications, Me.DGS plays an important role in ensuring that employee information is current. Me.DGS allows employees to manage and update their profile and contact information including office address, interagency mail code, and telephone, fax, cellular and pager numbers.
Last year DGS won a Solutions Showcase Award for its Internet home page, which has significantly enhanced the department’s ability to deliver better service to government agencies and California citizens.
DGS is the "business manager" for the State. It oversees State construction, purchasing, printing, telecommunications, insurance, transportation management, contracting, and school construction funding.
