CLOSURE OF CAPITOL AVENUE SIGNALS START OF
STATE OFFICE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
Sacramento — Beginning Tuesday, May 30th, a two-block stretch of Capitol Avenue between 15th and 17th streets will be closed to allow workers to begin the process of building the Capitol Area East End Complex. The closed portion of Capitol Avenue runs two blocks from the eastern edge of Capitol Park. Heavily-traveled 16th Street, which is also Highway 160 northbound through downtown Sacramento, will not be closed, nor will 15th Street be closed.

The planned closure will be followed by the four-block area being transformed into a construction zone. Completion of the Capitol Area East End Complex—and the reopening of Capitol Ave. between 15th and 17th streets—is expected in early 2003.

Construction continues on the other portion of the Capitol Area East End Complex at 15th and N streets where excavation work is nearly finished. Currently there are partial lane closures surrounding the excavation work on N, 15th, O, and 14th streets.
