Sacramento — An electric hybrid car and new on-line "e-commerce" projects are just some of the highlights the Department of General Services (DGS) plans to unveil at the 14th Annual Government Technology Conference May 17-19 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Department of General Services will present a number of innovative solutions it is providing to its customers in government and small businesses to make the "business" of government more efficient and environment-friendly.
"From the State’s e-business applications to its fleet of clean-fuel cars, DGS is providing innovations helping to make government leaner and cleaner," said Interim DGS Director Cliff Allenby. "The business solutions on display at this conference are making both good business and environmental sense."
Some of the business solutions DGS will be showcasing include the State’s "green fleet" of alternative fuel vehicles using the latest in zero and ultra-low emission technologies; an "e-Business Card" system allowing government agencies to save time and money by designing and ordering business cards on-line; recycled-content products that help government agencies reuse and recycle everything from paper to petroleum products; and on-line registration and information for small businesses competing for State contracts.
Another DGS innovation--an online employee profile directory known as ME.DGS--will be honored at the convention with a "Government Solutions Showcase Award" presented by the Microsoft Corporation. DGS will be one of five State agencies singled-out for implementing technology solutions to better serve the citizens of California.
The Government Technology Convention will draw nearly three hundred exhibitors and more than 20,000 attendees. Keynote speakers include Don Tapscott, Chairman, Alliance for Converging Technologies and author of Growing Up Digital: The Rise of the Net Generation, and Sky Dayton, Chairman, Earthlink, Inc. and Co-founder of eCompanies.
DGS is the "business manager" for the State. It oversees State construction, purchasing, printing, telecommunications, insurance, and transportation management, and contracting.
